Cockatoo

There are many kinds of Cockatoos all with their own distinct personalities.  These birds originate from Australia (along with Cockatiels and Eclectus).  Cockatoos are typically known for being very cuddly with their favorite person, but are also typically very jealous (and they have no problems letting you know).

Cockatoos can become good talkers and are very vocal.  These birds usually require constant attention or can be prone to plucking and screaming.  A happy Cockatoo is one of the most cuddly parrots around and will constantly shower you with affection.

These birds can live an incredibly long time and have difficulty adjusting to new homes/owners.

Marlene Says: A cockatoo is best suited to the person who have plenty of space and is able to be with the bird often.  Those who work at home or are retired find these parrots to be excellent companions, although sometimes moody.  These birds do not do well with individuals who work long hours.  These birds also tend to be particular about with whom their time is spent and can be very jealous.
